Recent creations…

When I was a kid, I always loved the books with lots of pictures. It wasn’t that I didn’t like reading, in fact I actually LOVED reading. There’s just something about flipping through pages of colorful pictures… Even now as an adult, I often find myself flipping through a travel magazine, full of pictures of far away places, or a new cook book that shows off the deep colors of exotic vegetables and fruit.

So today, I am just going to post a gallery of my recent creations. Comment and let me know which one is your favorite!! 🙂

P.S. I made each photo ‘clickable’ so that you can see more info on each project. ❤️

Taking time for health: Part 2

In last week’s post, we talked about making the time to workout, no matter how ridiculous the obstacles. Some of my excuses may seem ridiculous, but the struggle is real, Ya’ll!!!

For the part 2 of this series, I am going to be talking about something that will make a huge difference, if you take the extra minute to do it. It’s something that I can be easily distracted from with something as little as my phone ringing.

1. Take your vitamins!!!
I am really good about buying vitamins, but I’m terrible about taking them. Do what you have to do to remember… Use a daily pill organizer or set an alarm on your phone. I feel so much better on the weeks that I actually remember to take them.

2. Drink more water.
Again, I’m really good about pouring myself a cup of herbal tea or a glass of water, but life happens and it sits on the counter all by its lonely self… There have been times that I got to the end of the day and realized that I had only drank one glass of water the entire day!!! (Terrible for me, I know!) One of my goals this year is to drink a glass of water before I even eat my meal. I figured, this way I would not only remember, but it would probably help me on the weight loss side of things as well.

3. Scheduling my coffee intake.
I realize that there is a huge debate out there about wether or not you should drink coffee. I’m not here to argue about that, rather I am changing the time that I drink it. I used to drink it well past dinner time to make myself push forward until bedtime to get more work done. While I was getting more done, the energy behind my day to day work began to dwindle. Now, I drink a cup in the morning, and maybe a cup in the early afternoon, but after that I am opting for tea so I sleep deeper at night, and then I can get up at 6 AM. (I am currently working on the transition from being a night owl to a morning person.)

4. Taking the time to smell the roses.
As mompreneurs or moms in general, it’s so easy to push through each day, going to bed exhausted waking up exhausted… Each day blurring together.

A couple years ago, I was having a day where I was so worn ragged from working multiple jobs. For some reason I had a few minutes to be outside and enjoy the weather. I remember looking around and thinking, “I don’t remember this place being this beautiful”! It wasn’t that the scenery had changed, I had just never taken the time to notice!

We get so busy, we miss the entire point of working for ourselves… I want to work for myself so I can enjoy more time with my son and so that I have more freedom in my day to day activities. If I am so busy, that I can’t even notice how beautiful the sky or the trees are, I have traded one job for another.

Ok… So here comes the part where I tell you how much you seriously need to join my Weekly Newsletter + Coupon Club! I’m planning several amazing giveaways that only those who are part of the club will know how to enter!

Christmas 2014 Recap

Like I said last week, on Wednesday’s I’m going to be mixing things up a little. Sometimes I might share family moments and sometimes I might share products that I am designing or making.

Today I am going to share some photos from our Christmas. This year, not everyone was able to make it on the same day, so we ended up celebrating twice. We celebrated on Christmas day at our house, and again on New Years day at the in-law’s. We had a really good time, and I think the little guy didn’t mind having Christmas twice. 🙂

I noticed that Sean wanted to be a part of EVERYTHING this year. He wanted to help make the cookies, he wanted to help hang the ornaments, and he definitely wanted to help unwrap the presents before I could even get them under the tree!

We gave him a toy tool set, and I made him a little utility belt out of some fabric that my mom had sent a while back from Japan. He has been going around the house “fixing” doors, shelves, candles, candy… You name it. 😛

This was the first year I made a completely gluten free/dairy free Christmas dinner. Surprisingly, everything turned out really well. (Thank God for Pinterest recipes!!)
It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be, but it definitely involved a lot of coconut oil.

At this time, I am interrupting our featured post to remind you that our very first weekly coupon + newsletter club will be published on Friday! It will include a coupon to my Etsy shop, and a recap of this week’s posts! Like the description suggests, unless there is a super duper special occasion, you will only get the one email on Friday.

Now you can sleep well knowing that I’m not over here, scheming how to spam you both day and night… You’re welcome. (≧∇≦)
So anywho, be sure to join my club right here!!

Taking time for health: Part 1

On January 1st I said that each month I would be picking a topic that has something to do with balancing motherhood and business. Balance! Balance! Balance! I have been chanting it over and over in my head as I try to do better with it this year than I did the last. It’s one of those tricky things that’s easier said than done. So today I am starting the first of many monthly topics that will target those tricky areas in our lives.

If you haven’t guessed already, this month’s topic is about how to work on your health amidst you INSANE schedule. When most people say that they don’t have time to go to the gym, they are using it as an excuse to avoid perspiring glistening … Unfortunately, some of us really have no way to afford, find a baby sitter, or find time to go to the gym. I know because I am one of them.

One of my goals is to get into the same shape I was in college, so like I mentioned in the last post, rather than making vague resolutions, I am marking my calendar to make time for mini workouts.

Some of the things I am about to share with you will either inspire you, or have you laughing at me. Either way, it will benefit you, one way or another.

1.Wearing athletic wear does not make you athletic…
This might seem like a no brainer, but I’m actually speaking from experience. LOL. In my heart of hearts I knew that sleeping in a track jacket wouldn’t get me toned, but it looked like I had fallen asleep during a workout (I did one squat. Hehehe), so it made me feel better about myself.

2. Jumping jacks in front of the TV counts as cardio!
If you’re thinking, “Jumping jacks? Ha! Who is she kidding??”. You try watching an episode of your favorite show while doing jumping jacks non stop!

3. Pinning workout articles only exercises the index finger.
When was the last time you actually read that workout article you pinned? Skimming over the pictures doesn’t count. Make the time to read what you already pinned and apply it to your sessions.

4. Make it nap time priority #1!
If your kids still take naps, get a 10 min workout in! Go on youtube and search for Popsugar’s workout chanel. They have workouts categorized by 5min, 10min, and 30min workouts. Plus it’s freeeeeeee!!

5. Stop using, “I need a new workout bra”, as an excuse…
Maybe I’m the only one who’s ever used that as an excuse… Haha ^_^;

I am not a health and fitness expert, and consult with your doctor before starting any kind of exercise.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/703/74516623/files/2015/01/img_5861.jpgIt’s finally here, ya’ll!!! Join my club here, and I’ll send you a super secret coupon code and a story recap every Friday!! I hate spamming, so I have a NO SPAMMING policy and you can unsubscribe at any time if you really just hate it that much. And then I’ll see that you unsubscribed and go and have a good cry… Just kidding… Not really… LOL

Not enough water…

Do you ever stop to think about how much water you are actually drinking? I didn’t up until this last week, and I actually kinda shocked myself. Let’s just say that if you count all the tea and coffee I was drinking, it would have been wonderful, but otherwise there was very little water involved…

Thanks to a birthday present from my awesome sister and Jerry the minion, I’m now drinking enough water to keep a plant alive. It’s a good thing too, because if I drank any more coffee, I would have probably began to perspire java when I worked out!

Taking time to be still…

A little while back, I wrote ‘Learning to get a life…’ in hopes that others would see their need to make time for themselves. Today I’m going to take it a step farther.

In my other post, I was trying to encourage you to find a hobby outside of work. We get wrapped up in responsibilities, to the point that, that becomes our entire life.

Hobbies can be a good thing, and they can be relaxing, but how much time do we spend being ‘still’. Most of us are running to the grocery store, going to PTA, working out, sending off orders, taking phone calls, cleaning up the juice that your toddler decided to purposely pour on the floor, putting laundry away that you washed two weeks ago, walking the dog, making dinner, praying that your kid doesn’t dump his crackers on the floor while you’re making dinner… Etc. etc. etc. aren’t you exhausted just reading this?!???

It’s crazy but that’s the way most of us live. I know it’s necessary to get all of that done each day, but if you don’t take time to just ‘be still’ you’re gonna to go bonkers!

This week I found a way to combine my hobby with a way to be still. One of my favorite ways to be still is to sit quietly and read my Bible as I spend time with God. I love being able to cut fresh flowers from outside and put them on the table. It’s really nice when you get to enjoy God’s creation as you spend time in His Word. There’s a satisfying peace that comes with it.

There’s always so much to be done but taking those few moments and spending them quietly makes the rest of the day go by so much better…

Psalm 46:10a Be still, and know that I am God…

Poorly timed tiger tunes…

So in our house, ‘Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood’ is pretty popular. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this children’s show, it’s based off of the Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood, that was on TV years ago. As a kid, I remember watching this TV show when we came back to the U.S. to visit.

While the original show was set at a much slower pace than most current day children’s shows, I’ve always loved the calm, compassionate spirit of Mr. Rogers. I love seeing the manners and kindness that Sean is beginning to show, as he watches Daniel Tiger face challenges that are applicable in his own little life.

That being said… Some of the jingles from the show can turn into some pretty exasperating/hilarious situations when sung out of context.

The other day while we were in the grocery store, it was getting close to nap time, and Sean started acting up a bit.

Me: (leaning over) If you don’t stop, we’re going to go home right now and you’ll go straight to bed!!

Sean: *at the top of his lungs* ♪Close your eyes~~~ And think of something happy!~~~♪ *sniffle*

Me: (*_*)

We’ve been working on potty training, and while we are at home, I have had him running around the house in his big boy undies. I was working on breakfast when I turn around to find him standing in a puddle.

Me: Sean! You’re supposed to tell mommy!

Sean:But Mommy! ♪When you have to go potty! Stop! And go right away!♪

Me: ( ̄ー ̄)

One day last week, I was having one of those days where nothing was going right. Towards the end of the day, I spilt something on the floor.

Scott:What’s wrong?

Before he could even answer…

Sean: ♪When you feel so mad, that you wanna roar~ Take a deep breathe~ *inhales* And count to four~♪ *with hand motions* 1-2-3-4

Me: (°_°)

This kid cracks me up…
